St. Baldrick’s Head Shaving Fund Raiser event a huge success!
The Centereach Civic Association and the Centereach Fire Department hosted this year’s fundraising event which was held on Friday March 4 2016 at the Centereach Fire House.
St Baldrick’s Foundation is a charity organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. More children are lost to cancer than any other disease in the US. The “Head Shaving Event” is a signature event of the foundation. In order to raise funds people volunteer to shave their head in solidarity with children that lose their hair. They then ask family and friends to make a donation on their heads.
Our core committee that runs this year’s event are made up Civic members,FD members, Town employees, and community members that volunteer their time to make this happen. Thank you to this year’s committee members: VEO(Lead Organizer) – Jennifer Dickson, Organizer – Doug Dickson, Lead Treasurer – Jennifer Roy, Treasurer – Maria Weisner, Barber Coordinator – Robert Wilson, Volunteers – Bill Gilmartin, Mike Norman, Sam Bifulco, Cathy Pedro, and Fran Bielmeier,
This year’s event had a huge turn out! Great entertainment, food, and a chinese auction. We had 56 shavees that volunteered to shave their heads. Although the event held on March 4th is over, the online event remains open and we continue to fundraise.
